Hitting the wall

We had a product that worked and a university that loved it. Then we tried to sell it to other universities, and the market was crowded with bigger players. Three years in, we still weren’t earning a living from it.

It was like hitting a wall. We had to make a decision and change course: abandon the product we had built. But we had to do it, to keep the company alive and make it our full-time job.

Rethinking what we sell

The hardest part wasn’t technical. It was admitting that our real value wasn’t one app, but the team that built it: people who could understand a client’s problem and turn it into a working tool. So we repositioned the company around that.

  • AI consulting: forecasting, business intelligence, data visualisation, generative AI.
  • IT consulting: web and mobile apps, data engineering, system integrations, IoT.

We promised clients something simple: not a few recommendations in a PowerPoint, but tools they can use on their own. Every project follows the same method: turn needs into features, prioritise them with the client, build lean, and measure the result against the KPIs agreed at the start.

Three clients, three different problems

The new positioning only mattered if clients bought it. They did. Our three largest clients, among others, show the range:

  • Cérélia, food manufacturing: AI demand forecasting across 14 countries, improving long-term accuracy and combined with SAP IBP (Margherita).
  • Regione Emilia-Romagna, public sector: our EasyDesk experience became dAPPERtutto, a facility-management platform now used by 3,500+ regional employees to book desks and meeting rooms and to unlock office doors from their phone. I led the negotiation and the client relationship (go to story).
  • Deloitte, banking: official supplier from November 2023, building front-end software for a major Italian bank until June 2025.

Different sectors, different teams, the same promise.

A new name

In 2024 the name finally caught up with what we had become. We renamed the company Meravit, from the Latin meritus, “deserved.” It reminds us that our clients’ trust is not a given, but a responsibility we must earn and reaffirm constantly. We don’t rest on past achievements. We prove ourselves every day.

From “your company” to “our company”

When the team grew, the newcomers still called EasyDesk “your company”. As time went by and each of them took on a bigger role, “your” turned into “our”, and “you” into “us”. It’s the change I’m proudest of.

Where it stands

  • €780K+ in contracts over four years, profitable since the end of 2023
  • Six full-time people
  • Clients in the public sector, retail, banking and education; solutions used by 5,000+ people

What it taught me

  • Listen to the market, even when it says no. Changing course saved the company.
  • Know what you really sell. Our value was never one product; it was the ability to solve the next problem.
  • Empathy is at the centre of leading a team. Putting yourself in the other person’s shoes is almost always what separates solving a misunderstanding from escalating it.
  • Problems are not moments to blame, but moments to stick together. Trust your teammates, and know when to step back to find common ground and move forward together.
